Facilitating access to healthcare in cross-border regions

The Border Focal Point Network (BFPN) announces the next edition of the «Beyond Borders: Breakfast Debate» series. This engaging series of online events aims to gather policymakers, stakeholders, and citizens to discuss how cross-border disaster, risk, and crisis management can build resilience within the European Union.

The EC next ‘Beyond Borders: Breakfast Debate’ titled ‘Facilitating access to healthcare in cross-border regions’, coming up online on Thursday 21st March 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 CET. Register HERE

This debate will spotlight the obstacles, opportunities, and best practices in accessing health services across borders. With public healthcare challenges like infectious diseases and chronic conditions not confined by geopolitical boundaries, cross-border cooperation among health organizations has become crucial to improving the lives of border citizens. During emergencies and for routine medical needs, the nearest healthcare facility could be across a border, presenting hurdles such as regulatory disparities, language obstacles, and information access issues.

Public healthcare challenges are not confined to geopolitical boundaries.

This event aims to bring together professionals to discuss these challenges and share good practices from local, regional, national, and EU perspectives to enhance cross-border healthcare access and services.

The debate will feature an esteemed panel, including the following speakers:

  • Valeria Cenacchi, Programme Manager, DG REGIO, European Commission.
  • Natalia Zampieri, Policy Officer, DG SANTE, European Commission.
  • Caitríona Mullan, Cross-Border Specialist & Senior External Expert, DG REGIO, European Commission.
  • Marco Di Donato, Policy & Project Officer, EUREGHA (European Regional and Local Health Authorities).
